Up for auction is my faithful McIntosh 2100 power amp. I bought this new in 1975. I’m selling it because I haven’t been using it and hopefully it will find a great home. Like and old girlfriend! Anyway, as you can see by the pictures there has been pitting on the chrome chassis, and it looks worse than it is from the pictures. The surface is very reflective and it’s hard to get a good picture. It’s the sound that counts anyway. For years I used it with my trusty Dynaco preamp, it’s always amazed me how loud the McIntosh is. In college my buddy and I would set a pair of these up in mono, stack some speakers up and have a little concert in our dorm. Never heard anyone knocking.. I have compared this to my two tube amps and at high volume the tube amps will distort with the song “Nadia,” by Nitin Sawhney. There’s some pretty awesome bass frequencies generated, you should check him out if you haven’t heard of him. The McIntosh holds tight with no audible distortion. I just don’t play loud anymore in my advancing age. Shipping will be expensive, this thing is a beast. This is a used piece, it will be sold as is, no returns or trial period, what you see is what you get. Don’t forget to have your speakers hooked up correctly before you plug it in, there is no power switch on these amps.

Negative Feedback Explanation:
Hi hunt2,
eBay opened a case in the Resolution Center because ********* has a problem with an item purchased from you.
In most cases, buyers and sellers can resolve these types of issues through direct communication. We encourage you to respond to this case by Dec 26, 2010. If you aren't able to work things out, you or the buyer can contact eBay Customer Support to review this case and make a final decision.Details the buyer provided:Problem: The item is not as describedThe buyer has tried contacting youThe buyer paid on Dec 10, 2010The buyer contacted you through eBay MessagesThe item is damagedYou have not responded to the buyerYou aren't working with the buyer to solve the problemYou can call the buyer at "***********" if you want to try to work this out.The buyer wants:"reimbursment for repairs"You can view the details of this case in the Resolution Center.
Hi hunt2,
The buyer sent you a message.
Buyer's message:I sent you a message several days ago, when the item was received. I have video of the amp shorting a brand new tube that was installed to replace the tube that was damaged in shipping. The problem here is that the amp was a gift, and now there are repairs that are going to cost around $200 to an amp that you said was in working condition. Either you lied in your auction or you failed to ship the amp properly, in either case action needs to be taken on your part. I can provide photo and video to show the damage to the tube and the cooling fan.You can also view the details of this case in the Resolution Center.
Why would anyone take a video of a tube shorting? Wouldn’t you immediately turn off the amp? Don’t you think this might result in damage to the amp? I’m just gonna sit there and watch you burn.
Me:
You state that, “I sent you a message several days ago, when the item was received.”
This is the first message from you,(the buyer), I have received concerning your issue. I did receive an email from EBay last night saying that you opened dispute, but I have had no contact from you prior to your opening this dispute. I have no record, nor does EBay, of you contacting me before opening this dispute. I believe that Ebay stipulates that you (the buyer) first have to contact me (the seller) in order to give me a chance to resolve the issue before taking it to arbitration. Was your message sent outside of EBay by any chance? Honestly, I never received any message from you.
I want you to be happy with this purchase and I’m offering help, but you have to help me help you with more of the specifics of the problem. This is a used condition, 40 year old vintage guitar amplifier; components can go bad at any time. If you had concerns upon its arrival, they should have been addressed by a qualified amplifier technician before you powered it up. This amplifier left my hands in perfect working condition.
You say that there was a tube "damaged". Be more specific, which tube? How was it damaged? You replaced the tube with one of your own and your replacement tube shorted. As a result of your shorted replacement tube, you state that the amp will need $200 worth of repairs. Please explain how this is my fault. If a tube was damaged in shipment as you state, you should have first contacted me so that I could have offered you a replacement.
Once again, your replacement tube shorted, not mine. Brand new tubes out of the box sometimes are defective and short, especially the newer cheap ones from the Soviet Union or China. It’s a known problem and it happens. Was your replacement tube tested in another amp before you installed it into the Traynor? Was the replacement the correct tube, and was it properly installed? Tubes can very easily be installed incorrectly if you are not careful.. These variables are out of my control as a seller. Please explain specifically, what repairs are going to cost you $200? Again, be specific.
I stated in my listing, “As I am not a dealer, I can’t offer returns or a trial period. Once this amp leaves my hands it’s gone!” Just for this exact reason. I have no control over what you do to the amp after it leaves my hands. I have no control over a shorted replacement tube that you provide, nor the consequence of a defective replacement tube.
Hi hunt2,
The buyer sent you a message.
Buyer's message:I'm sorry for the communication breakdown, I did send a message to you before opening a case, I'm not sure why it wasn't received. I'm not trying to start trouble I just felt cheated and then ignored when there was no response. Lets start this over... The amp was a gift, it was shipped directly to the person who it was bought for (which is one of my verified paypal address, so there are no problems there). upon receiving it one of the tubes was floating around in the amp housing, along with the cooling fan. This could be explained much easier by the actual owner of the amp now, is there a phone number he can contact you at? You can also view the details of this case in the Resolution Center.
Me:
I want to work with you. I never received any message with your concerns prior to last night. Let me get all this straight. The fan broke off the L brackets and was "floating" around? I seriously doubt that. The worst that could have happened is that the brackets might have gotten bent a little in shipment, when you power on the amp, the plastic blades of the fan could have been hitting one of the power tubes. All that needs to be done is to bend the brackets back in place. Second, a tube was loose? What was the replacement tube that was used the exact kind? Third, you the buyer didn't actually receive the item at the address that you provided me? No, I don't want to deal with a third party; I didn't sell it to him. You've backed me into a corner with your accusation of a lie.
The amp has power tube clips and the 12ax7’s twist lock shields. It’s hard to remove the tubes even when you want to. There is no way they fell out by themselves during shipment.
Hi hunt2,
The buyer sent you a message.
Buyer's message:This is exactly why I want you to talk to him, I am not a guitarist I don't know the amp. He is an electrical engineer and also owns another YBA-1A and can explain exactly what happened. The amp was received at my mother's address which is where he is currently renting so there is no shipping discrepancy. I am not trying to scam you or back you into a corner, I am trying to watch out for my investment here. So please in the hopes of resolving this issue provide me with a phone number or email address so he can explain to you exactly what is wrong with the amp and we can work towards a solution that will be fair to both parties involved. Or should I ask ebay customer service to step in?You can also view the details of this case in the Resolution Center.
He has my email and my phone number is available to any buyer through Ebay
It’s already too late; he describes the amp as broken.
This explains what I think happened with the limited information provided by this disgruntled buyer, yes pins 1 and 8 on this Traynor YBA-1A Mark II were tied together. Results of using a new Electro Harmonix 6ca7 are described in this post:
http://www.marshallforum.com/workbench/12639-word-wise-eh-6ca7-tubes.html
So I open the case with Ebay’s Resolution Center
This buyer claims to have contacted me upon receipt of the item he won. I have no record of said correspondence. Prior to shipping the item he requested through 2 separate EBay correspondences that I send the item to a different address than that of his address of record. I complied. Last night I received an email stating that he had filed a dispute, from my perspective, before contacting me in good faith to try to resolve the issue. It turns out that the buyer himself didn't receive the item; it was a present for a friend and the friend received the item at the different address provided by, and at the request of the buyer. The buyer’s friend claims that there were problems with the item as a result of shipping. I have not been able to get exact details as to what the problem was or what was done after the amp left my possession. The buyer wants me to talk to the third party to help determine what happened. Do I have an obligation to deal with this third party who claims damage? This amp is a vintage guitar tube amplifier, 40 years old. I sold it as “used” as defined by EBay. It worked fine when it left my hands and I had no control as to what was done to try to fix it. My point is that if and when the buyer determined that there was damage to the item, he should have contacted me immediately upon receipt before attempting any unilateral remediation, allowing me a chance to offer a solution and resolve his problem. He didn’t, but he claims he did. Does EBay have record of this correspondence? The buyer claims his friend went ahead and tried to fix the so called damage; as a result the buyer claims the amp will need $200 dollars in repairs. The buyer claims that this sum is my burden.

How can a buyer leave any kind of feedback if they've lost a dispute with the seller? Of course they are going to have negative things to say. I did my best to please them, they lied, now I suffer their negative feedback.
2:59:31 PM Roman B.
I understand that you are worried because you have got a negative feedback, let me tell you more about this situation.
3:02:51 PM Roman B.
Aside from this transaction that you are referring to, is there any issue or concern that you would like to be assisted with today?

Okay. I'd like to check on this issue a bit further. Would you mind holding for 2 to 3 minutes while I do this?

I really want for the both of you to work this out.
3:16:27 PM hunt2
It's already been adjudicated by EBay, and Ebay says I don't have to do anything else

Buyers are allowed to leave a feedback about their experience on the entire transaction.
3:21:38 PM hunt2
And sellers?
3:21:54 PM Roman B.
Even if the case has gone into your favor they can still leave negative feedback because they are expressing what they have experience throughout the transaction.
3:22:30 PM hunt2
what kind of feedback can I leave for them? Can I express how they tried to extort money from me?
3:22:56 PM hunt2
The balance is missing here.
3:24:42 PM Roman B.
So you mean they have tried to threatened you to leave negative feedback so that they can get money?
3:26:14 PM hunt2
no, they threatened me with the dispute process, I took the matter into my own hands and opened the dispute with the resolution center.
3:27:07 PM hunt2
It was resolved in my favor as you can see. Now they can affect my ability to sell with negative feedback
3:27:34 PM hunt2
That's worse than a threat
3:29:17 PM Roman B.
I know that but we can only remove feedback if it contains inappropriate language.
3:29:35 PM Roman B.
The best thing here is to reply to the feedback that you have got.
3:29:56 PM hunt2
its an assassination of character if feedback is Ebay's way of determining good faith
3:30:52 PM Roman B.
I respect your opinion.
3:31:50 PM hunt2
I have an international auction open at this moment, will I now be able to sell internationally due to my less than perfect feedback score?
3:32:52 PM Roman B.
Yes you can still sell, its a point of improvement and even if you got a negative feedback you can show to your buyers that you are a good seller in which I know that you really are.
3:33:47 PM hunt2
How can I show that I'm a good seller if I have a bad feedback score?
3:34:16 PM hunt2
I took quite a hit with one negative feedback in 10 years on Ebay
3:34:42 PM Roman B.
By establishing a good communication with your buyers.
3:34:52 PM Roman B.
I really know that you can do it!
3:35:00 PM hunt2
What does that mean
3:35:45 PM Roman B.
Establishing a good communication with your buyer can do great things for you.
3:36:17 PM Roman B.
If they have a question and they can communicate with you in no time then you are a responsible seller.
3:36:19 PM hunt2
This individual claims to have contacted me with his concerns, he didn't, took matters into his own hands and damaged the amplifier I sold to him. Communication goes both ways
3:36:36 PM hunt2
What if they didn't communicate with me?
3:37:01 PM Roman B.
You can always get the phone numbers of your seller by the way.
3:37:11 PM hunt2
I responded immediately when they finally did contact me, it was too late at that point
3:38:01 PM hunt2
Now they can leave negative feedback, for something that was out of my control
3:38:18 PM hunt2
I'm the seller
3:38:22 PM Roman B.
So I suggest that you reply to that feedback and prove your point.
3:38:48 PM hunt2
There is not enough space in feedback response!
3:39:25 PM Roman B.
Then make it short, precise and up to the point to make it professional.
3:39:54 PM hunt2
On top of that, I want all communication to be documented, so phone calls are out of the question, Ebay even says that
3:40:11 PM hunt2
No communication outside of the bounds of Ebay
3:40:30 PM hunt2
For this very reason
3:43:02 PM Roman B.
I really know that you are frustrated. But I have trust in you.
3:43:43 PM hunt2
Feedback is supposed to be a cornerstone for Ebayers to assess integrity. If mine is attacked, I need to be able to defend myself.
3:44:02 PM hunt2
I thought that's what the resolution process was all about
3:45:37 PM Roman B.
Feedback is about the experience that the buyer have in the transaction.
3:45:58 PM hunt2
An adjudication in favor of an individual should negate any ability by the advisary to slander the individual
3:46:29 PM Roman B.
That is why we have a reply to that feedback.
3:46:48 PM hunt2
this would be libel because it is written words
3:47:22 PM Roman B.
Well Just make it short, precise and professional.
3:47:33 PM hunt2
I'm trying to
3:48:23 PM hunt2
Ebay is assisting with this libel by allowing this kind of feedback
3:49:05 PM hunt2
I believe the legal term is collusion
3:49:42 PM Roman B.
I really respect your opinion on regarding with our feedback system.
3:50:51 PM hunt2
Is there any way I can escalate this problem to you legal department?
3:51:01 PM hunt2
your
3:51:07 PM Roman B.
No there is none.
3:51:24 PM hunt2
We have a problem
3:51:52 PM Roman B.
Okay. I know that you are frustrated.
3:53:05 PM hunt2
No, just trying to understand the process within the parameters of rationality
3:55:06 PM hunt2
May I use this conversation as a disclaimer on all of my future auctions?
3:55:32 PM Roman B.
Well you can use it, Its your choice.
3:55:51 PM hunt2
Thanks, we're done I guess
3:56:07 PM Roman B.
Thank you too.
3:56:15 PM hunt2
Good day

I won a dispute through Ebay’s resolution center, the buyer didn't actually threaten negative feedback; they in fact gave it to me after they lost the case. The assumption can only be that Ebay’s Resolution Center decided against them because their case was lacking merit and baseless.
Ebay says the threat of leaving negative feedback is not allowed, but Ebay allows baseless negative feedback.
Its like saying, "I'm going to rob a bank,." but you didn't. This is a threat. Is this threat worse than actually robbing the bank? Ebay will take action against the threat but not against the actual deed.
The buyer left me negative feedback because they lost the decision. Ebay allows this kind of negative feedback. Since Ebay's feedback system is supposed to be an assessment of an individual’s integrity and credibility, this baseless negative feedback is in fact defamation of character and since it is the form of written word it is libel. It would also be collusion on the part of Ebay for allowing this defamation of an individual’s character to happen.
I’m just trying to point out what I believe to be a flaw in Ebay’s feedback policy. On top of the seller not being able to leave negative feedback for a buyer, this creates an unfair balance and a weapon to be used by any disgruntled buyer; for what ever reason, including those issues which have been shown to lack merit as decided by Ebay’s Resolution center. Anyone that has sold on Ebay knows what I’m talking about.
