VINTAGE MARANTZ 140 STEREO POWER AMP....BLUE METERS!!
Greetings, and welcome to this auction for a very nice example of a 1970's vintage Marantz 140 70 wpc/stereo power amp. This is one nice sounding stereo amplifier that functions perfectly and looks very nice. This amp is from the era when Marantz was one of the dominant USA manufacturers of high quality home audio equipment, and were known for their distinctive large blue lit VU meters set in a black surround in a brushed aluminum faceplate.
APPEARENCE:
This amp is near perfect, with two very small nicks to the top edge if the faceplate, and a small chip in the black paint of the top cover. Both of the meters function properly, and I just replaced the 4 meter lamps, so it has the cool blue glow to the meters when the amp is on. The back cover is excellent,, and the original power cord is still flexible and shiny, with no breaks or flaws.
Performance:
I hooked the amp into my basement system and ran it for several hours, and it performed perfectly. Sound was clear and undistorted in both channels, the meters tracked perfectly, and there was no scratchiness when the level knobs were rotated.
Other:
I have owned this amp for about 10 years, and initially had it hooked up in a full matching Marantz system, with a Marantz 3200 preamp and model 105 tuner. About 4 years ago, the 3200 preamp went out, and was not repairable, so this amp sat unused since then. It was warmed back to operating voltage with a Variac, and is now ready for a new owner.
