Its a HK A250 "Epic" 6L6 Tube Integrated Amp, but converted to a pure 6L6 Class A 25W power amp as at least 2 pots and switches are bad (no replacement) or are getting old/noisy.The project was gone thru by www.tubedeforce.com
It was a surprise to me when it was delivered there, as they told me 99% of the parts/components are done. So I listen them, and let them to take the whole amp off, pull everything out. To re-handwire the whole amp again. Thanks to the good designed output transformers. They can transform it to a auto-bias power amp. Now it can take all kind of NOS or non matching tubes such as 6L6GB, 6L6GC and 5881 (they recommend). 99% of the amp is new, so this is an essential a new amp with the good old irons. It is completed with a on/off button, and a pair of new gold plated RCA jacks.The result is phenomenal! It is as good or better to my MC225, MC240 and MC30s! as well other similar tube amps. Compare to my Mcintosh tube amps, its more quieter, cleaner and more refine. It just sounds like a high end tube amp made today.What makes this amp interesting is not only of its rareness (this is far lessly seen than these popular MC and HK Citations, and even Marantz tube amps), let say compare to the Harman Kardon Citation V. I like about in contrast, is this amp has fully hand wired circuitry - no board. It is also finished with a copper chassis (brass I was told). It also don't have bias pots and other switches like the Citation and Mcintosh/Marantz. Last but not least. the 45 degree aiming output tubes really make the amp looks like a Canon fort.The bad news, you'll have to work out your cleaning skill. Oxidation is minimum. But there is a dried coat of dirt/tar/grease on it requires intense cleaning. It doesn't bother me as I only concern with the sound and spec. But it can become a very nice unit with this color. The faceplate is clean and in perfect shape.I spent over $1000 on this amp. Here is a good power amp if you need to hear.
